Here's a close up of the little buggers web:

The little white specks are the nasty critters. I decided it was time to get really serious with the things. You'd think I could have come up with a nicer way to do it. The plant was really struggling anyway, but they're about as hardy a plant as ever I've grown. I tipped it over the sink and sprayed it all down:

I got it from every side corner and angle I could think of. You can see that it washed almost all the leaves off. They were dead anyway.

Here's a close up between the branches showing where all the mites were washed away:

It has been a couple weeks since I did all that. I'll take pictures of it now and share them with you another day. About my health, I'm waiting for a referral to visit with a Rheumatologist. Because my blood work didn't show anything really obvious, my regular doctor doesn't want to put me on anything without a for certain diagnosis.
Wow! You really got physical with them! I have never heard of rinsing the plant to get rid of mites, and the plants I've had get them always died :(
ReplyDeleteI will be trying that next time the need arises. I can't wait to see the picture of how its doing now!
Man Missy, sorry you aren't feeling good. I came over thinking you caught that flu that has been going around-leveled me for 2 weeks-but sad to see it is much worse. Hold in there. I will be thinking about you. RA can be terrible, but they do have medical treatments that help.
ReplyDeleteYou know what you need? A good craft project to get your mind off of things :0) Pick one that will be kinda frustrating so you will be so crazy about that, you forget about the pain :0D
Good luck with the Drs.

Spider mites are sticky little critters and a pain in the rump! I have been known to give such drastic showers to a few plants over the years. LOL
ReplyDeleteHi! How are you? Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. Hope you have solved your mite problems.
ReplyDeleteHi Missy, I am so sorry to hear that you are not feeling any better. Unless a problem is common or obvious doctors sometimes have a hard time figuring out what the problem is. Hopefully, you will be better soon!
ReplyDeleteYou really gave those spider mites the boot. I often get them on my ivy plants. I tell you, it doesn't take long for them to do a plant in! Usually I get rid of mine with a generous spray of insecticidal soap. Take care! Jennifer
Aw poor little plant...hope you are feeling better though!
ReplyDeleteTara: I've had poor success getting rid of them too. They came back with this plant so I gave it another round. We'll see how that works out.
ReplyDeleteVanessa: Ah, if my joint would let me...I'm an avid crocheter and have a pair of socks started that don't seem to be finishing themselves anytime soon! :D
Skeeter, One, and Heather: Thanks for stopping buy and commenting. I hope I get feeling better and get rid of my mites soon too!
